  • Coral Reefs

Next to the tropical jungles, the coral reefs constitute the second richest biome of the world, covering an area about 600,000 square kilometers which constitutes 17% of all the sea surface area. In the coastal waters of Iran, so far 28 species of coral reef have been identified on the margins of 16 islands in the Persian Gulf and two coastal regions (Bushehr's Taaheri Harbor and Chabahaar Bay). They belong to the marginal (flat or scattered) species. The living corals of the world are located in surrounding waters of Qeshm Island. A variety of colorful fishes attract divers.
